Sharing Chrome tabs between your phone and your computer is a convenient way to continue browsing a webpage on a different device. It's an excellent method to know whether you're a Chromebook enthusiast who's in the middle of reading an article, or you're just having trouble viewing a page on your phone.

Thankfully, you can easily share your desktop Chrome tabs to mobile and vice versa. There are a few ways to do this, so try each to see what works best for you. All these methods share the tab instantly between devices. If you're looking to open a tab that you opened earlier in the day, you'll need to go to the History menu in Chrome.

Before you begin sharing Chrome tabs

Make sure you're signed in to the same Google account across your devices; otherwise, you won't see your device when you go to share a tab. If you're planning on sharing tabs between more than two devices, take a moment to name them appropriately. Otherwise, you'll spend a while debating whether your laptop is DESKTOP-9KDM3 or DESKTOP-10DM91.

There are two options for sharing tabs from your phone to your desktop. You can also use this method to share a URL with a contact or copy it for later.

  1. Tap the three-dot menu at the top right of your screen.
  2. Tap Share.
  3. Tap Send to your devices.
  4. Tap the destination device.
  5. Tap Open in new tab on the pop-up window.

This method will allow you to access the Share menu without heading into Chrome's Settings menu.

  1. Tap the URL box at the top of your screen.
  2. Tap the Share button (three dots connected by two lines to the right of the URL).

If you want to share a Chrome tab that's not currently open, skip ahead to Open Chrome tabs through History.

Right-click the tab/URL/page

This is the quickest and easiest method.

  1. Click the Share button at the right of your address bar.
  2. Click Send to your devices.
  3. Click the destination device.
  4. Chrome will now send a notification to your phone with the URL.
  5. Tap this notification to open the tab.

Scan the tab's QR code

While this method is more cumbersome, you can print it out for future reference.

  1. Click the Share button at the right of your address bar.
  2. Click QR code.
  3. Click Download to download an image of the code.
  4. Open the camera app on your phone.
  5. View the QR code through your camera.
  6. Tap the pop-up window to open the tab.

Open Chrome tabs through History

Chrome's browser history combines results from all devices signed in with the same account. So if you want to find something you opened earlier, you can access it from any device. While not technically a method of sharing tabs, it's an effective way to find a site you accessed on a different device.

How to access other devices' history from desktop Chrome

  1. Click the three-dot menu at the top right of your browser.
  2. Hover your mouse over History to bring up the History sub-menu.
  3. Click the History button.
    • You can also use the shortcut Ctrl+H to access this menu.
  4. Click Tabs from other devices.
  5. Click the tab you wish to open.

How to access other devices' history from the Chrome app

Unfortunately, the mobile Chrome app doesn't sort your history by device. All browsing history is presented (rather inconveniently) in one list. You'll have to do this manually.

  1. Tap the three-button menu at the top right of your screen.
  2. Tap the History button.
  3. Scroll down to find the tab you're looking for.
